The Ladin Cultural Institute was founded in accordance with Provincial law No. 27 dated 31st March 1976. The institute was named after the priest Micurà de Rü (1789-1847), a pioneer in the field of Ladin linguistics. Born to a farming family in Val Badia he studied and worked in numerous towns in Italy and Austria.
In 1833 he compiled the first Ladin grammar with the intention of creating a common written language for Dolomite Ladin speakers.
The Ladin Cultural Institute "Micurà de Rü" in Val Badia and Gherdëina is preserves, protects and promotes the ladin language, culture, folk traditions and history.
